William Morris Antiques has dated these Secessionist Iron Candlesticks to the 1910s.
The candlesticks are to a modernist design but echo the fundamentals of the Arts and Crafts Movement which had started in England in the late 19th c with an underlying principal being focused on hand craftmanship.
Bergers style mixes modernist shapes with primitive forms of domestic metalwork. The candlesticks are typical of Goberg's work with the use of honest materials such as Iron and Brass. The manual character clearly catches the eye. His style, method and materials matched perfectly with the Arts & Crafts movement, a very popular style at that time. In the early 20th century he became well known worldwide, due to the fact that the leading department store Liberty and associated stores, were selling much of his work.
