Antique Carved Oak Coffer or Blanket Box

An interested 17th century antique oak coffer or blanket box of six plank construction, having hinged lid revealing a spacious interior with candle box to the left-hand side, decorative carved front with old iron lock plate (redundant), having unusual shaped and carved apron or plinth. Well-worn and rustic throughout with many signs of age make this a rather charming piece.

CONDITION REPORT:

In well-worn rustic antique condition throughout with various signs of age and wear. Surface wear in throughout including many age-related marks, wear, and other imperfections. Structurally solid and sound. The lock plate remains to the front but is redundant. Hinges have been replaced at some point in time with old blacksmith iron hinges. Evidence of old historic wood worm in various places – this is long gone and has been fully treated as a precaution. Some honest repairs. Overall, an interesting piece of early oak furniture.
