Large pair of early C20th Chinese blue turquoise glazed pottery ‘Dogs of Foe’ .

Well-modelled larger scale pair of mythical Chinese temple guardian lion dogs . Raised on draped plinth block bases , the male and female dogs are depicted wearing collars , the male with his paw upon a ball , the female with a pup . Open-mouthed fierce expressions with bulging eyes , protruding tongues and fang details.

In Feng Shui , the lions are a manifestation of ‘Yin’ and ‘Yang’ , the ball representing the circle of life . The male provides protection for the structure of the building, whilst the female protects the occupants of the Temple .

In excellent original condition with no damage or repairs. A striking and vivid decorative blue turquoise glaze , providing superb decorative Oriental exoticism for an interior scheme .
