A Georgian theatrical tinsel picture of the Shakespearean play Richard III depicting Mr Kean, (the actor who lived between 1787-1833), playing Richard and Mr Cooper (also an actor who lived 1793-1870) playing Richmond. The names of the actors and their characters are printed at the base, as is the printmakers name and address W S Johnson, Martins Lane, London. (Martins Lane is in London’s theatre district.). Tinsel pictures - made of a collage of fabric and materials - were popular in the Georgian era, dating to c1830 though this one does not bear a date. Depicting a dramatic fighting scene, the picture is in very good condition. It has been remounted and reframed in a plain black frame.
