Artisan Antiques has dated this piece to the 19th Century.

The egg can be opened by twisting the two ends, revealing a hollow compartment interior.
As such, small items may be stored inside the egg - e.g. pills/tablets if one desires to do so.
The egg has an intricate level of craftsmanship; from the overall aesthetic proportions to the perfect fit of the twist lid whereby the engraving aligns perfectly upon closure.

The egg is hallmarked with the 84 Zolotnik mark, St Petersburg anchor mark and the maker's mark for J.E.Sallman (IES).
A lovely piece of Imperial Russian Silverware with a novelty and collectable aspect for both silver and Russian history enthusiasts.
