JOSEPH HORLOR (1809 – 1887) OIL ON ARTIST'S BOARD CIRCA 1860 SIGNED - Framed size 31 x 26 inches, 79 x 66 cms Painting size 23 x 18 inches 59 x 46 cms (Oval) - A decorative Victorian landscape by Joseph Horlor. He was a 19th century West Country artist who specialised in coastal scenes and landsscapes of Devon, Cornwall and Wales. - He is first recorded as living in Bath, later moving to a studio in Bristol where the majority of his work was produced. He has a most distinctive style and is known for the freedom of his brush-work and the harmony and delicacy of his colours. - Exhibited between 1834-1866 at the British Institution and the Suffolk Street Gallery London. The Bristol City Museum & Art Gallery hold examples of his work in their permanent collection as do the National Trust and the Holbourne Museum in Bath. - Condition is good.
