Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A serpentine chest of drawers is defined by its undulating front profile, which incorporates a central convex curve flanked by concave outer sections. Originating in the mid-eighteenth century, this design required advanced cabinetmaking skills to shape both the frame and the drawer fronts.

Eighteenth-century examples were predominantly constructed using dense West Indian or Cuban mahogany, often accented with flame mahogany veneers on the drawer fronts. Secondary timbers like pine or oak were used for internal drawer linings, accompanied by cast brass handles and escutcheons.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joints, oak or pine drawer linings with grain running front-to-back, and irregular hand-hammered brass fittings. Natural oxidisation and shrinkage marks around the drawer bottoms and rear casing also indicate genuine age.

A serpentine chest functions effectively as a focal piece in a hallway, bedroom, or living space. Its curved front softens linear architecture, allowing it to pair well with contemporary artwork or neutral decor schemes.

Dust surfaces regularly using a soft, dry cotton cloth, and apply beeswax once or twice a year to maintain the timber finish. Keep the chest away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent veneer movement and colour fading.
