Japanese Cast Silver & Mixed Metal Dragon Okimono - Kazumi

As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this exceptional Meiji period 1868-1912, solid silver and mixed metal decorated dragon okimono signed by Gyokuryuken Sanmi, circa 1900, this heavy solid cast silver dragon group is cast in extraordinary detail and depicts two entwined dragons supporting a glass crystal ball, one of the dragons highlighted with a shakudo body as well as gilt detailing to the extremities, the other dragon remains a tarnished silver with gilt decorated detailing throughout,the contrast giving each beast a perfect definition, the menacing eyes picked out in shakudo and gilt detail,  the group fit snugly to the finely carved hardwood and lacquer decorated rockwork base with the use of the original silver locating pin, the underside of the dragon has been signed within an oblong cartouche by an artist known as Gyokuryuken Sanmi his art name Kazumi, a Meiji period artist producing high quality silver okimono during the late 19th century...
