Description
A most elegant Golden Oak Regency Jardiniere Circa 1850. The dish shaped Jardiniere rests on a base of ovolo moldings supported by a tapering and decorated column emanating from a carved lotus flower with fluting to the base. The whole is raised on a tripartite platform with elaborately carved scrolling feet. The quality and style are of this elegant Jardiniere is redolent of an earlier age. The Regency period, is a term applied to English furniture from 1800 to 1830. This period was partly a reflection of the French Empire designs and many of the designs are Classical. The furniture of this period was more useful and smaller than earlier - this one of the reasons for its recent revival in popularity. Among the designs of this period were Henry Holland, George Smith, Thomas Hope and Thomas Sheraton.
