Framed dimensions: 10 1/2 x 12 3/4 in. (26.5 x 32.5 cm.)

Recently remounted and glazed behind ArtGlass within a Hogarth frame.
> This compositional drawing by the famed Scottish artist and collector Andrew Geddes is a rare example of how he conceptualised his paintings. The interior scene, very much conceived in the vein of his friend Sir David Wilkie's famous scenes of 'Blind Man's Buff' of 1812 (Royal Collection), is confidently composed, with a tight focus on the central figures in an otherwise bare interior. The verso drawing simply features a couple of studies of hands.
> Geddes was arguably the most accomplished etcher of his day, nearly matching Rembrandt in his mastery of the medium. As a result his prints are fairly common on the market, which cannot be said of his drawings.
It is likely this drawing was with the London drawings dealer Abbott and Holder in March 1972, who in turn had bought it from a sale at Sotheby's a month earlier. A very similar drawing, now in the Royal Academy collection, was bought by the artist Carel Weight at Abbott and Holder, which would suggest a similar origin to the present drawings.
