Description

A remarkably pretty pair of late Victorian candle lustres c1880. The two candlesticks are made of moulded glass, a technique developed by the Victorians in the late 19thc, They have an out swept base and a horizontal serrated top to replicate a daisy pattern, with a deep candle recess in the centre. Each has a set of 8 beautifully cut lead Crystal lustres - four are a triangular arrow shape; the other four, also triangular, hang from an octagonal crystal button and two sides of the triangle are cut with snowflake shapes. The two types hang alternately from the Daisy rim. The whole effect is thoroughly enchanting and glittering, yet the whole piece is sturdy due to the moulded glass centre. Most of the snowflake lustres have little nibbles on the tips, about half of the arrowheads also do. But the glamour effect is not diminished. It would be uneconomical to grind smooth the nibbles - its best to live with them.
