Antique Furniture Direct has dated this piece to the 1880s.
The back section with foliate embossed panel and original integral shovel all raised on a circular base.

The front of the lid is stamped with the British Registry “Diamond Mark”, with a date of 15 August 1882 for the date of its patented design registration. This indicates the design was registered in 1882 and this coal scuttle was made from that period onwards – although the mark wasn’t used after 1883; so this piece can be dated to 1882-1883.
