A what-not is a piece of furniture derived from the French étagčre, which was exceedingly popular in England in the first three-quarters of the 19th century. A series of shelves for holding china, ornaments or ''what not''.
 
This tall slender piece of furniture is in good condition, with minor marks in keeping with age.
 
It has a gallery top and 4 tiers on turned supports with a single drawer in the front.
