Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1870s.
The top is inlaid with a sailing barge with a lighthouse on the headland.

The interior has been relined in a hand-marbled paper perfectly in keeping creating a clean finish. The tasselled key is for display only, the lock not working.
These Trinity House boxes were made by Lighthouse owners (often in the Portsmouth area of the UK) and sold to owners and Captains of the ships.
Dating to c.1870, Victorian in era. Excellent condition measuring 8 1/8" x 6" x 3 1/2".
