Collinge Antiques has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
Sycamore was traditionally used for dairy worktops, bowls, spoons etc. as it didn’t impart a flavour into the food during preparation. Here the top is held with four pegs at the sides so as to be removable for cleaning (or delivery). On a honey-coloured elm base with a single large drawer in the front with a turned knob and a divider inside for knives and utensils. Raised on tapering square legs with simple scratch carved detail front and rear. Typical of antique elm the base does have old woodworm holes. Otherwise very good condition with great original colour and patina, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
Dimensions: width 51", depth 32", height 30".
