A very rare example of the first of the wheel barometers circa 1780. The example we are showing here is made by Bassi of London. The Thermometer is highly unusual in that the casing is polished brass and hinges open. This feature was very quickly changed and by 1790 they were mostly wooden cased.
The main dial is surrounded by a concave bezel and the case which is veneered in thick mahogany has fine Georgian inlays and a rope edge of ebony and boxwood. The overall propotions and patination of this piece are very appealing. A classic and very useful instrument.
Please remember we are closed Sundays and Mondays, open every other day from 9am until 5pm . If we have not responded to an email, we may not have received it...please call us as well.
