Aramis Antiques has dated this piece to the 1880s.
At one end is a chased decorative silver screw on lid with cork seal typically used for snuff or smelling salts. At the other end is a chased decorative silver hinged lid and glass stopper for scent or cologne. The screw on lid is engraved with the message A Present from RW to JM in the tiniest italic writing. As usual with these Victorian double scents, the lids are not hallmarked though made with sterling silver. Beautiful!
