Description

An outstanding quality and impressive pair of matching claret jugs with silver plated mounts and heavy cut glass bases dating to c1910. The classic baluster shape bases are diamond cut up to two cut V shape rings at the shoulder, with a further diamond cut pattern on the neck. The bases are star cut. The silver plated mounts are gorgeous. Each has a mask head spout, pineapple (symbol of welcome) finial, and a foliage decorated handle ending in double scrolls and topped by a classical sea creature. The lids are connected with good strong hinges and fit the bases perfectly. There are no impressed marks. The quality, substance and design suggest a date of manufacture of c1910. Two lovely antique claret jugs to impress any guest!
