Description

A stunning early 20thc. bronze figure initialled at rear base WB or WPB, from its style dating to the Art Deco era c1920s and almost certainly continental made.

The female figure, looking down, leans against a rough hewn rock and is dipping her left foot into water at the leafy water’s edge. The bronze finish is matte with enough polishing to catch the light. The sculpting of the rock, foliage around it and watery base, as well as the hairstyle (a typical 1920s bob) is quite angular and impressionistic, deliberately, in contrast to the more classical sculpting of the figure itself.

I really like this piece of sculptured art - it speaks of the liberality emerging after the stuffy Victorian era. I have researched the initials but haven’t been able to attribute them. Still, it’s beautiful.

It weighs approx 2.5kg.
