Antique Longcase Clock

19th century
Description

A Georgian mahogany longcase clock with a swan neck hood pediment. A well proportioned, slim case. Brass capped hood columns. Choice grain to the case with satinwood inlays. Shell inlays to the trunk door and base. A very attractive early example of a painted dial with floral corners, date and seconds dial. Lunar moon phases to the arch. An 8-day duration mechanism striking the hours on a bell.

Thomas Wootton of Colchester is recorded in Loomes' 'Clockmakers and Watchmakers of The World' book as born in 1736 and working until 1797.
