We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The William IV style spans roughly from 1830 to 1837, acting as a bridge between Regency neoclassicism and early Victorian design. Characteristics include substantial proportions, bold carvings, acanthus leaf motifs, and extensive use of rich dark woods such as rosewood and mahogany.

Bookcases from this period were predominantly crafted from solid mahogany or rosewood veneers over pine frameworks. Tops often featured thick, polished natural marble slabs, such as Italian white or coloured varieties, paired with brass gallery trims or carved wooden corbels.

Authentic pieces feature distinctive dark grain patterns characteristic of Brazilian rosewood, along with hand-cut joinery on internal supports. Marble tops should show age-appropriate wear on the underside and precise fitment along the carved timber borders.

A low marble-top bookcase functions well as a credenza beneath artwork or a mirror. Position structured book stacks alongside contemporary ceramic vessels on the shelves to contrast the dark timber tone and formal marble top.

Dust rosewood timber regularly with a soft cloth and apply beeswax sparingly along the wood grain. Clean marble surfaces using a damp cloth with pH-neutral soap, avoiding acidic cleaners that damage natural stone.
