19th century
Description

~ French - Circa 1880 ~

A beautiful classical clock set, of excellent quality in ormolu (finely gilded bronze) and delicately painted porcelain. The dial is finely painted with a scene of a young couple seated by a river in a country setting. The side urns also show the couple walking in woodland, she cradles a small bird, symbolic of love.

The rear of the urns are profusely decorated with country garden flowers. The rear door of the clock is glazed to allow the movement to be seen. The set is complete with its original suite of gesso bases with blue velvet covered tops. The set displays beautifully from all sides.

The French movement is by Japy Frères and is of the makers usual high quality. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is original. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a sonorous gong. Click the video to hear the bell and watch the clock running.

Condition of the case is excellent, the original gilding is beautifully clean and bright. The are some small areas of tarnish and some marks. The ormolu of the urns has some slight wear. Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
