Edwardian Mahogany Library Bookcase

1900 - 1920
Description

Edwardian mahogany library bookcase

This Edwardian mahogany library bookcase was made in the Warings of Liverpool’s workshops. Warings later gaining a greater reputation when in 1897 Gillows of Lancaster began a collaboration with Waring of Liverpool until inevitably they become Waring and Gillow in 1903.

As this Edwardian mahogany library bookcase is stamped Warings that would tell us that this was made pre-1903.

The style of this would be in my opinion one of the last items made as Waring being a standalone company.

As all things made by Warings, quality was the number 1 priority and that came above price.

This bookcase just oozes premium work from the choice of timber to the quality of the cast brass handles and the door bolts, and of course the fantastic cabinet work.

The bookcase has 3 astragal glazed doors in the top section. This consists of a double width bookcase to the right and a single cupboard to the left, each with 3 mahogany shelves. The base with a similar format. This bookcase is made in 2 parts which allows easy transportation to and around your home.

188cms wide at the cornice (183cms wide 71 1/2ins at waist)

50.5cms deep 20ins

220cms high 86 1/2ins

All Measurements are approximate, whilst we take care in measuring there may at times be a very slight difference.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
