Rare 18th Century Hounds Head Sword Stick

Description

With a triangular fullered blade this early 18th Century sword stick has a painted malacca handle and haft, a green/brown base coat is detailed by black painted rings and lines to the hounds head. A rather nice detail is the protruding hounds tongue.

It ends in a long, brass ferrule which further confirms the date. The long ferrule is to prevent the wooden haft from coming into contact with mud, which may also indicate it being a country stick perhaps associated with hunting.

It is in exceptional original condition.
