We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Cloisonne enamel production in China flourished during the Ming and Qing dynasties, having been adapted from Byzantine techniques in the 14th century. Artisans used fine metal wires to form intricate cells on bronze or copper bodies, which were then filled with coloured enamel paste and fired.

Traditional cloisonne involves soldering thin copper or brass wires onto a metallic base to create decorative compartments. These compartments are filled with enamel paste composed of ground glass and metallic oxides, fired multiple times, and finally ground, polished, and gilded.

Authentic 19th-century pieces typically exhibit fine wirework, minor surface pitting or bubbles from historical firing methods, and heavy cast metal bases, often finished with gilded copper or brass rims and foot rings.

A cloisonne vase serves as a vibrant focal point when positioned on a dark wood sideboard, marble mantelpiece, or within an eclectic gallery shelf arrangement. The rich enamel colours pair exceptionally well with neutral backdrops and natural timber textures.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and avoid using harsh chemical cleaners or abrasive polishes which can erode the gilding. Keep the piece away from extreme temperature fluctuations and moisture to protect the underlying copper base from oxidisation.
