William & Mary Burr Walnut Chest on Stand

17th century
Description

A William & Mary burr walnut chest on stand, late 17th century, the moulded top cornice over two short and three long graduated drawers, the base fitted with three drawers and raised on baluster turned supports joined by shaped stretchers with bun feet. The drawers with line inlay and with brass handles and escutcheons.

The top surface of the upper section is flat which allows it to be used as a surface for displaying vases.

Of good, even colour and there are no missing veneers or moulding. It has very likely has some old repairs in the past (the back stretcher is possibly not original), the brassware are Georgian replacements but otherwise a good, honest piece.
