Antique Longcase Clock

19th century
Description

A Somerset mahogany longcase clock with marquetry inlays. Brass capped hood columns and a wavy hood door edging. Choice veneers to the case of light colour with marquetry banding. An attractive arched painted dial with floral corners and a scene to the arch. Date and seconds indicators. An 8-day duration mechanism striking the hours on a bell.

The Tyte family of clockmakers worked in Wells from 1815-1896. They are well documented in A J Moores' 'Somerset Clockmakers' book with illustrations of clock dials.
