Antique Silver Longines Pocket Watch for Thomas Russell

1900 - 1920
Description

Antique silver Longines pocket watch for Thomas Russell.

The watch has a Longines stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is signed T R Russell, 18 Church Street, Liverpool and it has the serial number 370903 which dates it back to 1884. The movement is signed with the earlier Longines logo on the regulator, the later hourglass logo was registered in 1889. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.

The watch measures 55mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is 935 silver and there are Continental hallmarks inside the two case backs. The case is in very nice condition, just a couple of small patches of unevenness to the edge of the case back but nothing serious at all.

The glass lens has light marking and a 2mm chip underneath the edge.

The dial is signed T R Russell. It has a short faint hairline running from number 9 but it is difficult to see with the naked eye. There are two chips to the edge of the dial but they are covered by the bezel. Lever set hands.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.

In 1848, the original Thomas Russell was listed as a watch maker in Liverpool. In 1859, he passed control over to his two sons, Thomas Robert Russell and Alfred Holgate Russell, and the business became Thomas Russell & Sons, moving to 18 Church Street in 1877. The brothers eventually went their separate ways with Thomas Robert continuing as proprietor at Church Street.

Please contact us regarding international shipping.

We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
