Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A teapoy is a small, specialized item of furniture designed during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries to house and lock away valuable tea leaves. The hinged upper section typically enclosed velvet-lined caddies and glass blending bowls, raised on a pedestal stem for access in drawing rooms.

Victorian teapoys were constructed using solid cabinet woods such as walnut or mahogany, frequently finished with decorative burr walnut veneers. The pedestals featured hand-turned joinery, spiral twisting, and hand-carved tripod cabriole legs with dovetail joinery securing internal compartments.

Authentic period teapoys demonstrate hand-carved detail work, natural grain variation consistent with genuine burr walnut veneers, brass locks or hinges, and age-related wear inside the lid where tea mixing bowls were placed. The presence of hand-turned barley twist stems and carved knee ornamentation is characteristic of mid-nineteenth-century manufacture.

A teapoy table serves as a functional occasional table, lamp table, or side table beside an armchair or sofa. Its compact footprint and distinct silhouette make it suitable for narrow reading nooks, entrance hallways, or living room corners.

Maintain burr walnut by dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth and applying beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year to preserve the wood finish. Avoid direct heat sources, damp conditions, or aggressive chemical cleaners that could lift delicate veneer sections.
