Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A 19th-century German pewter tankard, or Zinnkrug, is a traditional hinged-lid drinking vessel cast from pewter alloy, frequently engraved with guild emblems, fraternal symbols, or dedication inscriptions.

These flagons were constructed from pewter, an alloy composed primarily of tin combined with small amounts of copper or lead. The body, handle, base, and hinged lid were cast separately in moulds, assembled using solder, and finished with lathe turning and hand engraving.

Authentic pieces often display touchmarks or maker stamps near the rim, base, or inner lid, along with natural wear on the thumbpiece and base rim. Genuine period pewter exhibits a matte grey oxidisation and hand-engraved motifs rather than modern chemical etching.

Display the vessel on a dark wood mantelpiece, a rustic sideboard, or within a tailored bookshelf arrangement to add historical texture. Pairing metalware with leather-bound volumes, framed prints, or brass decorative items creates a curated contrast of patinas.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft cloth and wash occasionally with warm water and mild soap if necessary. Avoid abrasive metal polishes or aggressive chemicals, as retaining the natural grey surface oxidisation is essential for preserving historical character.
