Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A fireside suite typically comprises a matching set of hearth accessories, including a fender, fire dogs, and companion tools designed to manage an open coal or wood fire. Popular during the Georgian and Victorian eras, these sets combined practical heat management with ornate decorative craftsmanship.

Authentic period pieces are predominantly crafted from solid cast or sheet brass, often paired with wrought iron working ends on tools to withstand high heat. The decorative components feature cast brass detailing, such as claw and ball feet or ornate finials, joined with hand-cut threads and rivets.

Genuine antique brass items typically exhibit signs of age such as slight irregular hand-casting marks, wear to screw threads, and uneven oxidisation in recessed areas. Older sets often feature heavy solid brass construction rather than lightweight hollow modern reproductions.

Positioning a polished brass suite around a contemporary or restored fireplace adds warmth and tactile history to modern living rooms. The warm metallic tones create a strong focal point against dark painted chimney breasts or natural stone hearths.

Dust the metal regularly with a soft cloth and clean with a mild brass polish if a bright finish is desired, taking care around cast recesses. Alternatively, leave unpolished to allow a natural aged patina to develop, ensuring tools are kept dry to prevent iron rust on working ends.
