A late 19th century signed Neapolitan bronze model of a fisher boy.

Fine, large and wonderfully patinated late 19th century bronze sculpture of a semi naked young 'scugnizzo' who stands holding a squid on
a naturalistic rocky base with cast signature J. de Luca.
Sourced from an Italian private collection and signed by the Neopolitan artist J. De Luca. Scugnizzi are often fishermen, and the word “scugnizzi” means young boys or rascals in Neapolitan dialect. These individuals were popular subjects for sculptors in the late 19th and early 20th century and bronzes such as this were the height of fashion throughout the salons of Europe.
This is a particularly fine and large example which is ready to display and enjoy on a handsome dark wood plinth
Sculpture: 32 inches by 20 inches
