This is an antique locking tantalus. An English, oak and silver plated decanter case by Fenton Brothers of Sheffield, dating to the late Victorian period, circa 1900.

Two-piece locking bar uniting both sides with sinuous handle to centre
 
Circular, working lock secures access to the decanters — key present

Plinth base with attractive bracing in the Gothic revival taste
 
Trio of superb decanters with cut glass decorative finish and eye-catching faceted stoppers
 
Named for the character in Greek mythology, Tantalus
