Description

With a truly superb colour to the solid walnut frame, this fine quality late 17th century chair has a tall columnar and caned back with finely carved scrolled crest rail between the rear posts centred with a stylised flower. The outswept arms on turned supports and terminating in expansive scrolls. Raised on horsebone blocked and hocked legs terminating in carved scroll feet, the legs united to front by a beautiful carved stretcher of matching form to the crest rail.

The caning has been renewed in the past fifty years and is of the correct finer gauge to mirror that of the original. The seat has an old hand made to measure padded and tasselled cushion pad covered in a rich cut velvet which has some age related wear and some loose and missing tassels - attractively aged though and it suits the chair very well.

Some small repairs and replacements consistent with age and use and with some evidence of old worm, long since treated and dead, the chair is structurally sound, sturdy and usable with no weakness or movement in the joints.
