Fine Bristol Georgian Moon Phase Longcase Cclock by James Burr

Description

A fine quality Bristol Georgian lunar moon phase longcase clock. A mahogany case with dentil cornice mouldings to the hood. An original set of 3 brass finials to the top. Brass capped hood columns with corinthian capitals. Side glass hood apertures and blind fretwork to the hood arch. An identifiable 'Bristol' area case with a wavy hood and trunk door. A raised plinth panel. A well made brass and silvered dial with date and seconds. Moon phases to the arch and high water in Bristol tide indicators. Gilt corner cast spandrels and and decorations around the recessed seconds dial and date aperture. An 8-day duration mechanism striking the hours on a bell.

James Burr of Bristol is recorded in A J Moores 'Watchmakers and Clockmakers of Bristol' book as working from 1735 and he took on an apprentice in 1741. He worked at 16 Claire Street and St Stephens.
