Description

The 'germech' was the base panel under the engsi (door-rug) and which was designed to keep-out vermin. This germech, made by Ersary Turkmen in the Middle Amu Darya Region of Turkmenistan circa 1860-1870, has a superb madder-red field comprising diamond-shaped 'guls' or tribal crests throughout. The main border is powerful and at the base, a plain-weave panel completes this rare and fabulous trapping. In excellent and complete condition.
