Neo Classical English Georgian double-barrelled mechanical vacuum air pump, circa 1815.
Two tapered pillar construction reminiscent of the Parthenon, the shaped mahogany pediment held in place with two Adam Finials.
The whole stood on a moulded rectangular plinth with shaped bracket feet like a small piece of late Georgian furniture.
An intriguing philosophical instrument, a Georgian rich man’s / boy’s toy, for both serious scientific endeavour and after dinner entertainment.
Demonstrating inside a vacuum, the silence of a ringing bell, a feather dropping at the same speed as a lead weight etc.
All in excellent condition, retaining original lacquer to the brass and patinated polished surface to the mahogany.
Good tight motions to the rack and pinion and pump actions, a little tinkering and you’d be impressing your friends with a show.
Rectangular base 13,1/4? x 10? or 337mm x 254mm Weight 9.8kg
