James Noble was a 20th century British still life artist who was inspired by the 17th century Dutch masters. He studied in London under the well Scottish artist Iain MacNab.
Noble soon found himself drawn to the flower painters of the great 17 th century Dutch romantic artists such as Ambrosius Bosschaert the Ekder,Roelandt Savery and Jan Brueghel the Elder.It is this genre that Noble found his forte.

From 1950 Noble exhibited at the Royal Academy, the Paris Salon and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters.

In 1957 he had his first solo exhibition in Bond Street. This was so successful that many other exhibitions followed at Frost & Reed, Mandell’s and Stacy-Marks Galleries. James Noble lived in Middlesex, then London and finally he settled in Norwich.
He is listed in The Dictionary of Flower Painters.
