Small 'Cottage' Longcase Clock by George Spurr of Aylesbury

Description

A small 'cottage' Georgian Buckinghamshire longcase clock. A flat top pediment to the oak case of neat proportions. Gilded wooden front and rear hood column capitals. A slim trunk door with the original brass escutcheon. A small 9 1/2" brass and silvered dial with corner brass cast spandrels. A nicely engraved dial centre with the makers name and original single hand dial layout. A well constructed 'birdcage' 30 hour mechanism striking the hours on a bell.

George Spurr of Aylesbury is recorded in 'The Clock and Watchmakers of Buckinghamshire' book. He is noted in Quarter session records in 1724-5.
