A Good Late 18th Century Mahogany Secretaire Bookcase

Description

A good late 18th century mahogany Secretaire Bookcase, with ornately arcaded 'teardrops' carved to the pediment, glazed doors to the top (with original glass and working key) and with two adjustable shelves inside.

The base [height: 39.5inches (100cm)] features four full-width drawers, the upper-most of which slides open to expose the desk area. Release the brass clips and lower the fall-front flap and the green & gold embossed leather writing surface is revealed. The interior further contains five small drawers with original brass knobs and three pigeon holes for storage.

Below the sliding desk section are the three further full-width drawers, all retaining their original brass handles, locks and escutcheons. The whole unit is supported on bracket feet.

Dated:  c.1790-1810

Dimensions:   Height: 235cm (93 inches)  Width: 104 cm  (41 inches) Depth: 57 cm (22.5 inches).
