In A Nutshell Antiques and Interiors has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
The outer of the box is made of the finest quality rosewood with recessed military style brass handles and a matching brass escutcheon.

Inside the box, the lid is lined with red leather with a gold tooled edge. This folds forwards to reveal a small removable mirror in the lid. There are various fitted sections, some with wooden lids and the top tray lifts out to reveal a lower storage compartment. There is also one lidded glass pot. There is a brass rod at the front of the box which when pulled up releases a drawer in the bottom of the box with a small recessed brass handle. The drawer is lined in a pale blue velvet and divided into three sections, ideal for storing jewellery.

It is in good condition for its age and has been very well made and well looked after. There are some minor signs of age and use and a few old repairs to chips in the veneer but overall the piece displays beautifully. Internally the box is generally clean and tidy with some wear and small losses to the lining inside the lid. It has been cleaned, waxed and the brass has been lightly polished and it is ready for use.
