Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Bisque, or biscuit porcelain, refers to unglazed ceramic fired once or twice to achieve a smooth, matte finish resembling marble. Popularised in 18th-century Europe and widely produced through the 19th century, these figurines frequently depicted romanticised figures in period costume, pastoral scenes, or mythological subjects.

Bisque figurines were crafted using liquid porcelain clay poured into plaster moulds. After initial firing, artisans applied delicate hand-painted detailing using cold paints or enamel glazes, often adding subtle gilded highlights before a low-temperature firing to set the colours.

Authentic pieces exhibit a fine, tactile grain with soft chalk-like texture rather than shiny glaze. Look for incised mould numbers or maker stamps on the underside, fine facial painted details, delicate seam lines from plaster casting, and natural age wear on gilding.

Position the pair symmetrically on a mantelpiece, floating shelf, or console table alongside structured contemporary items to create balance. Their muted pastel tones pair well against dark backdrop walls or neutral timber surfaces in eclectic and classic interiors.

Because bisque porcelain is porous and often features delicate cold paint, avoid immersing the figurines in water or using harsh chemical solvents. Remove surface dust regularly using a dry, soft-bristled brush or a light microfibre cloth.
