It retains its original lever platform escapement and is in perfect working order. The superb masked dial is most unusual, with raised Roman numerals and 'en grisaille' decoration to the background. This is signed by the retailers, Starr. 7.5ins high, handle up.

Theodore B. Starr was a company of silversmiths founded in New York in 1862. In 1864 he was joined by Herman Marcus and the firm became known as Starr & Marcus. In 1877 Marcus left to join Tiffany and Starr bought the company back. From then on it was known as Theodore B. Starr. This clock which would have been retailed through his most prestigious store, can be firmly dated between 1877-1900
