A beautifully executed bronze of Omphale, the legendary Queen of Lydia who, in Greek mythology, bought Hercules as her slave for a year. She is shown wearing a lion's belt and a full quiver of arrows. The patination is a pleasing greenish brown with a few hints of gilding suggesting this was originally parcel gilded to parts. Unusually she has pierced ears although the earrings are now missing. The bronze bears the signature Patou (?) but our various reference works do not include any works by this artist. The work is continental and we believe most likely French.
The bronze and the Belgian Black marble base have been lightly cleaned and waxed.
24cms high including the attached marble base which measures 9.6cms wide with a depth of 9.25cms.
