Description
A really rather special pair of Charles X period, circa 1830, bronze and gilt bronze 4 light candelabra. The 4 light section is removable giving the alternative option of single large scale candlesticks. Extremely well finished and of a striking design in the Gothic manner with tapering stems featuring architectural detailing supported by acanthus leaf decoration over lion paw and ball feet raised on tri-form concave bases. The following approximate dimensions apply:- Overall height 62.5cms Maximum width 22cms Height of candlesticks without candle arms 43cms Each candelabra weights some 4.4kgs. Both candelabra are in excellent condition. The patinated bronze elements have been waxed and the ormolu cleaned. The ormolu is bright and fresh save for the tops of the drip pans and bobeche which are somewhat rubbed and so not as vibrant. The gilding is original as is the patination to the bronze. Two candle holders have a small hole drilled to the base of each for wiring but these are difficult to see (as shown in the last two photos). In additon there are a few of the small hanging details to the bottom parts of the drip pans and bobeche missing. All elements are entirely original and of the period with the exception of a piece of internal metal thread which forms part of the construction and is not visible.”
