18th Century Yew Wood Corner Cabinet C. 1770

18th century
Description

A beautiful Georgian corner cabinet with original thickly hewn oak backboards and original shaped shelves to the interior. Of small and elegant proportion and in excellent condition.

.

It is unusual to find 18th century pieces in solid yew wood and here the yew is richly burred and has developed a truly superb colour.

.

The cupboard is free standing and very heavy and sturdy. The doors open and close smoothly and the shelves are level and firm.

.

The cornice frieze and plinth are later additions as the cupboard was originally built in to a corner of a Georgian house. The later additions were added in 19th century to allow it to be freestanding but have been on the cupboard for more than a century and are extremely well blended as you can see from our photographs.

.

The turn thumb handles are copper and brass and the fielded panel doors have a lovely chamfered border. Upper arch to the interior original also.

.

A very beautiful and rare example in yew with an exemplary colour and naturally deep patina and dating from c. 1770.

.

.

Dimensions are:

.

78 inches high, 29 inches wide and approximately 25 inches deep when measured from front to back.

.

Along the angled side is 17.75 inches, shelves are spaced about 12 inches apart and from front to furthest point at back are just under 10 inches deep.
