Youngs Antiques has dated this piece to the 17th Century.
The S-scroll finials proud at the top with split turnings applied above the arms, The accentuated shaped arms supported by small turned balusters with the legs being more of a gun barrel form. Interestingly the seat panel is rebated into the rails.

The chair itself has had some minor restorations with some brackets that have been applied underneath at some stage presumably to sturdy the chair due to its refined design.
I would imagine that this chair was originally designed as an occasional chair rather than a chair for everyday use, as it isn't built with the same heavy duty construction as many common wainscot chairs are.
Overall this chair is in excellent condition for its age and has a rich dark patina.
