Artisan Antiques has dated this piece to the 19th Century.

The majority of Teodor Werner's silver works were hallmarked with Russian hallmarks and an extra trademark (not found on standard Russian silver), "anchor in an oval" - a common trait found in Russo-polish silversmiths.

A commonly shared opinion amongst specialist is that Werner was characterised by the high technical level and richness of decorations on his craft despite the rather small factory (40 Workers) in comparison to counterpart micro-factories of the Imperial Russian era.
The hinge and close of the box are flawless and the craftsmanship of the box boasts of a high quality design and feel. The lid and base have an "engine turned" design with a bold crest in the centre.

Overall, an excellent historical piece as well as an intricately designed object of vertu - a great choice for any collectors of Snuffboxes and Imperial Russian History.
