Artisan Antiques has dated this piece to the Georgian era.
The highlighting feature of this box is unquestionably the lid which features a high raised equestrian scene with intricate detailing. The background has been stippled and the accompanying border features a timeless Georgian floral chased design.

The interior is equally gilded with a brighter and glossy finish with minimal gilding loss.
The fine craftsmanship of this snuff box is evident: a sturdy and reassuring weight is felt in hand in addition to a smooth hinge and lid that has a tight and perfect closure.

The box is fully hallmarked with the maker's mark, date mark (1866), silver lion, Victorian head and the Birmingham assay mark.
A highly decorative and ornate silver-gilt snuff box, ideal for uncompromising collectors of unique silverware from the Georgian/Victorian era.
