Description

We are delighted to offer this magnificent pair of silver-gilt grape scissors made by silversmith John Gilbert of Birmingham in 1862.

The scissors feature a lustrous and indulging fully silver-gilt (gold plate) design which glistens very beautifully under lighting/sunlight.

The pair is made with excellent precision and construction quality which is evermore evident in hand. Despite it being over 140 years+ old, the pivot works flawlessly with a smooth action and the blades slide underneath each other very well.

The handles are beautifully embellished with a finely hand engraved foliate motif that runs across the stem up to the finger rings.

The scissors are in excellent condition with full hallmarks on the handles clearly marked with English hallmarks.

A beautiful pair of Victorian fine silverware ideal for display or practical usage with some fruits and amongst other silverware such as fruit bowls, dishes and tazzas. The gilt colour significantly contrasts the surrounding silver and makes for a small yet highlighting piece of silverware for your interior decor.
